Since 2012, when 'Desperate Housewives' said goodbye to audiences forever after 170 episodes, fans of the series have always longed for a possible return at some point. That moment, it seems, has now arrived and it has been confirmed via Deadline that production is already underway. However, some new details have put die-hard fans up in arms.
It will not be a continuation as fans on social media had been hoping for, but rather a reboot that stems from creator Marc Cherry's reinterpretation of the suburban neighborhood, which will now be larger, involve a new group of friends and therefore will not follow the stories of the original characters where they left off.
Where and when will the new 'Desperate Housewives' be released?
It will be titled 'Wisteria Lane' and will be developed by actress Kerry Washington, although it is not yet known if she will also be part of the cast. The cast is expected to have new faces and its arrival in the United States is planned for Hulu, so its premiere in the UK will be on Disney+.
The synopsis, according to the aforementioned media, will start from a very concrete idea similar to 'Desperate Housewives': "It follows a group of five very different friends, and sometimes enemies, who live in an idyllic suburban neighborhood called Wisteria Lane. On the surface, all the neighbors of Wisteria Lane have dream lives: beautiful houses, perfect families, big cars on the porch. But behind the white fences and smiling Insta posts, there are many secrets."
The series comes after many years of insistence from Eva Longoria, one of the original actresses, who had long been calling for a twist and more stories involving plots and confrontations between the group of friends. This return, however, will be based on a new and completely different group. At the moment it is not known when the new episodes will arrive on the streaming platform.
