The California government will begin distributing monthly stimulus checks of $725 to selected residents of Sacramento on June 15, 2025, as part of the Family Economic Pilot Program (FFESP), which is aimed at families with young children who meet specific eligibility criteria.

This new economic assistance program, istered by the Sacramento County Department of Child, Family and Adult Services, seeks to provide a guaranteed monthly income to families facing economic challenges.

This stimulus is part of a broader initiative funded primarily by California state grants to prevent child abuse and reduce entries into the foster care system, particularly among African American and Native American communities that have historically been overrepresented in the child welfare system.

What are the requirements to qualify for the stimulus?

To be eligible for this financial aid program, applicants must meet four key criteria: First, they must reside in one of the following zip codes in Sacramento County: 95815, 95821, 95823, 95825, 95828 or 95838.

Second, they must be the parent or legal guardian of an African American, American Indian or Alaska Native child between the ages of 0 and 5, who lives with them at least 50% of the time.

The third requirement states that household income must be below 200% of the federal poverty level. The limits vary according to household size: for a two-person household (one adult and one child), the limit is $40,880; for three people, $51,640; for four people, $62,400; and so on, adding $10,760 for each additional household member.

Finally, the fourth requirement states that applicants cannot currently be participating in other guaranteed income programs, whether government or privately funded.

It is also important to note that immigration status does not affect eligibility. Families of any immigration status can apply for this financial assistance, which significantly expands the program's reach to vulnerable communities that are often excluded from other government benefits.

Selection process and required documents

The program will randomly select 200 eligible participants to receive the monthly payment of $725 for 12 consecutive months. Selected participants will be notified between May 5 and June 6, 2025, and payments will begin on June 15, 2025, and run through July 15, 2026. Notifications will be sent by email, phone call or text message.

To eligibility, selected applicants will need to provide specific documentation. To identity, they can submit a driver's license, port, tribal ID card, permanent resident card or military ID, among other options. Residency can be verified through a lease, recent utility bills or mortgage statements.
