The San Jose State women's volleyball team has become a lightning rod for controversy this season due to transgender female, Blaire Fleming, competing for the team.

That continued this week with word that the University of Wyoming women's volleyball team was opting to forfeit their game against the Spartans.

Wyoming s Boise State and Southern Utah in forfeiting games against San Jose State, with none of the three giving a specific reason for the decision.

"After a lengthy discussion, the University of Wyoming will not play its scheduled conference match against San Jose State University," the volleyball program said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Per Mountain West Conference policy, the conference will record the match as a forfeit and a loss for Wyoming."

Fleming is a redshirt junior and plays as an outside and right-side hitter and played two seasons with SJSU after previously suiting up for Coastal Carolina.

San Jose State responds

San Jose State responded to OutKick via a statement on Tuesday and lamented the fact their athletes are being denied the opportunity to compete despite following all rules and regulations.

"It is disappointing that our SJSU student athletes, who are in full compliance with NCAA and Mountain West rules and regulations, are being denied opportunities to compete. We are committed to ing our student-athletes through these challenges and in their ability to compete in an inclusive, fair, safe and respectful environment," the statement read.

A member of San Jose's women's volleyball team, Brooke Slusser, ed 18 other athletes in suing the NCAA over its current gender identity policies.

In the lawsuit, Slusser claims she became concerned for her safety after realizing one of her teammates was transgender. She claims she wasn't aware Fleming was transgender despite sharing rooms on trips as per court documents.

"Brooke estimates that Fleming's spikes were traveling upward of 80 mph, which was faster than she had ever seen a woman hit a volleyball," Slusser's complaint read. "The girls were doing everything they could to dodge Fleming's spikes but still could not fully protect themselves."
