One of the most important measures for companies when changing the name of a brand is that customers and consumers associate the old name of the brand with the new one, a movement known as 'rebranding'.
This often distorts consumers' thinking, as they do not relate the old name to the previous one, causing the company to lose a lot of value.
This is the case of HBO Max, which will return to this name after two years of being called Max. This has been announced by Warner Bros, who have linked this change to a "brand push" that represents the highest quality in media to drive it in the coming years.
Max emerged from the merger of Warner Bros. Pictures and Discovery
Warner Bros does not hide the reason why Max will return to its old name, and this is how they have made it known: "It also demonstrates WBD's willingness to continue to renew its strategy and approach, relying heavily on consumer data and insights, to better position itself for success", with these last sentences uttered by the company being the reason why this rebranding is taking place again.
WBD rebranded HBO Max to Max in 2023, shortly after the merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery in 2022, which led to the creation of WBD. This alliance was intended to include the original projects of the different parent companies that contemplated the unification, namely Warner Bros. Pictures and Discovery.
With this, Warner Bros will seek to reach the wake of the major content reproduction companies that are now ahead, such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Despite all of the above, it should be noted that Max reported in the last quarter up to 5.3 million new subscribers. In this way, HBO Max will face with this new name such important releases as the new series inspired by 'Harry Potter'
