A new culture has arrived at the Las Vegas Raiders with the goal of becoming competitive in the AFC West-a division dominated by Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, along with the Denver Broncos, who signaled last season that they're ready to compete.
The Raiders' first move was to fire Antonio Pierce after a disastrous season and hire Pete Carroll as their new head coach. Carroll brings a Super Bowl ring, which he won in 2014 during a stellar season with the Seattle Seahawks.
Carroll's first major decision was to bring in Geno Smith, a quarterback he trusts after many years working together in Seattle. Since becoming the starter for the Seahawks, Smith has posted impressive numbers, especially in 2022 and 2023, earning him Pro Bowl honors.
For now, Geno Smith will lead the Raiders' offense and will surely face pressure from all sides. However, he'll be ed in the running game by the talented Ashton Jeanty, the top running back of the recent draft class, making the offense potentially exciting.
Tom Brady has full confidence in Cam Miller
In the sixth round of the recent draft, the Las Vegas Raiders selected Cam Miller, quarterback from North Dakota State, who will Pete Carroll's quarterback unit.
According to Dan Pompei of TheAthletic.com, Tom Brady, minority owner of the Raiders, was in communication with general manager John Spytek during the draft and gave his approval to select quarterback Cam Miller.
"He liked the way he threw, his technique, how he used his body from the ground up, and his mechanics," Spytek said about Brady's evaluation. "And he thought he had the potential to improve."
Miller had a 45-11 record as a starter at North Dakota State and won two FCS national championships. Now, he'll head into Raiders training camp with the strong motivation of having caught Tom Brady's eye on his path to the NFL.
