- NFL. Joe Milton is working overtime to take Dak Prescott's job with the Dallas Cowboys
- NFL. Dak Prescott and the big doubts about his return: 'He's at an advanced stage of his career...'
As the Dallas Cowboys continue to build momentum in offseason workouts, quarterback Dak Prescott is already making headlines with his sharp play and renewed intensity.
During a recent OTA session, Prescott fired a pinpoint 22-yard touchdown over the middle - a caught confidently by tight end Jake Ferguson.
But it wasn't just the completion that turned heads. It was what came after.
Ferguson didn't celebrate in a typical fashion. Instead, he made a clear, silent declaration - one that could be interpreted as a message for every other team in the league.
"It was a warning shot," one observer noted. At this stage in the year, in what is often considered a routine time for light reps and basic installs, the Cowboys' urgency was unmistakable.
Cowboys OTAs hint at shift in culture and expectations
For a franchise still holding the title of the most valuable sports team on the planet, the Cowboys' postseason track record has fallen well short of expectations. Dallas hasn't appeared in a Super Bowl since their championship run in the 1995 season. That 30-year drought weighs heavily on fans and players alike.
Prescott, who is entering his 10th NFL season, has been central to the team's identity in recent years. With a solid career record of 76-46 and over 31,000 ing yards, he's been productive-but not yet transformative. He's never guided the Cowboys to an NFC Championship Game, and time is becoming a factor.
But change is in the air in Dallas. New head coach Brian Schottenheimer has adopted a back-to-basics approach that dismisses advanced metrics in favor of one core focus: winning. "Forget the analytics, forget the stats - the only number that matters is wins," he reportedly told the team. The Cowboys' practices are already starting to reflect that mantra.
During the June 11 OTA session, Prescott looked as locked in as ever. He completed 15 of 19 es, notching four touchdowns in the process. Among those completions were a well-placed corner route and a couple of quick-rhythm scores. But the most impressive came on the bullet to Ferguson - a delivered with perfect timing and anticipation.
Pickens the not-so-secret weapon
Dallas has also bolstered its receiving corps by acquiring George Pickens in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The addition gives Prescott another versatile option alongside star receiver CeeDee Lamb, who has made it clear he's aiming for championship-level success this year. With weapons like these, the Cowboys' offense may finally have the firepower to match its hype.
Now the longest-tenured player on the team following the retirements of Zack Martin and DeMarcus Lawrence, Prescott finds himself at a crossroads. The leadership burden is heavier, and the window to change his postseason narrative is narrowing.
If this week's OTAs are any indication, however, the Cowboys aren't just preparing for another regular season - they're aiming to rewrite the story. And Jake Ferguson's message may have said it all without a single word.
