The 2025 college football season is fast approaching, with the opening games scheduled for kick-off in a month-and-a-half. While a ton of eyes are on Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns, Deion Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes aren't far behind. The football program is in a precarious position at the moment, after losing Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter and other key players.

Coach Prime has a lot of work to do in order to continue the momentum from last year, when his team went 9-4. While college teams haven't fully ramped up the preseason process just yet, Sanders has been out of the public eye, particularly since the 2025 NFL Draft. He appears to be dealing with some health problems that have arisen, which recently forced him to make an important decision.

Coach Prime was set to be a keynote speaker for The Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research over this past weekend. At the last minute, he was replaced by NBA legend Magic Johnson. According to the foundation, Sanders couldn't make it due to his schedule.

What Deion Sanders Said To Tampa Bay Buccaneers After g Shilo Sanders

"Due to an unavoidable last-minute scheduling change, our originally scheduled Foundation Keynote Speaker, Deion Sanders "Coach Prime," is unable to attend. We are grateful for his and look forward to future opportunities to welcome him."

While it wouldn't be the FSCDR's place to reveal Sanders' health status in a statement, it's likely not a coincidence that Sanders couldn't make it while his health is a concern at the moment.

It was only 10 days ago that Sanders went on former NFL player Asante Samuel's podcast and scared fans by claiming he has "lost about 14 pounds" while dealing with health issues. It was his first real public, speaking appearance since an April 22 press conference. On Samuel's podcast, Sanders sounded hopeful that he'd get over whatever he's dealing with soon: "I'm coming back".
